HWHSEF History
1960 -
The Hamilton District Science & Engineering Fair was founded in this year.
It was one of the first Science Fairs in Canada, along with Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal. It was founded by the Hamilton Spectator, McMaster University and Mohawk College, with significant involvement by Roy Middleton of the Hamilton Spectator.
1985 -
Five area School Boards were added as Trustees. The eight Trustees were responsible for direction of the fair, and funding.
1995 -
Hamilton, and the HDSEF, hosted the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). This is the only time the ISEF has been hosted outside of the USA.
1999 -
The Fair name was changed to Hamilton-Wentworth and Halton Science and Engineering Fair (HWHSEF), to better reflect the area we represent, as a Regional Science Fair mandated by YSF Canada.
2000 -
Introduction of Sheridan College for the first time as host site for HWHSEF 2001.
